Shout Factory Just Made My Day – ‘CREEPSHOW Collector’s Edition’ to be Released!

Welcome back my Nasties! Gather close and snuggle up with a corpse because we have some ghastly goodness to discuss. I’m your host, Manic Exorcism, and today I, once again, am being forced to bid farewell to some more hard-earned cash. That’s because our friends over at Shout Factory just gave us some of the best damn news ever, and frankly, I’m a bit shocked. Earlier today the team responsible for giving us some of the finest horror Blu-rays ever just announced that we will be getting a CREEPSHOW Collector’s Edition. It’s finally happening!

It’s about fucking time too! For the longest while, we had to settle for an inferior, bare-bones release of one of the most beloved horror titles of all time. CREEPSHOW is the pinnacle example of how a horror anthology should be done. Certainly, this movie wasn’t the very first horror anthology, but it’s certainly the favorite among many. It’s my personal favorite one.

The masterminds over at Arrow Video did give us a brilliant release of CREEPSHOW 2, and I’m very happy with that edition. Nevertheless, I still wanted the set to be complete (CREEPSHOW 3 can eat shit and die because it doesn’t exist to me) and hoped to see the original movie (FINALLY) get a proper Blu-ray treatment.

The movie deserves it.

The fans deserve it.

Jordy Verrill gave his life to see this finally happen.

And by God, we’ve waited long enough!

That’s the charm of this movie. It’s spooky fun, something modern horror needs to be reminded of.

No matter what kind of day you’re dealing with this movie will make you feel better.

It’s also something you can watch with your kids, just in case you’re wanting to raise them to be proper horror fanatics. It has everything! The dead rising from the grave, Joe Hill getting the shit slapped out of his face, Leslie Nielsen being a dickhead to Ted Danson, and a drunk Adrienne Barbeau – this movie is fun for the whole family!

I’m curious to see what kind of Special Features we’re going to get with this one too. I’m really hoping it mirrors the UK DVD edition that came out a while ago. Regardless this is the Collector’s Edition and given Shout Factory’s past record I know we can expect some great things.

Retro Cult Hits From Wes Craven and Dario Argento Coming in July From Arrow Video

July is shaping up to be Arrow Video’s very own blockbuster season with a multitude of new releases making up a perfect month of cult film viewing. If you, much like myself, are avoiding boob and ball sweat season like a vampire avoiding a sunburn, then sitting in the A/C with an icy-cold drink with some old favorites smothered in high resolution is the way to go.

Here’s what’s new to good ole’ Arrow Video this coming July.

The Complete Sartana [Limited Edition 5-disc Blu-ray] (7/3)

The crown jewel of Arrow’s July releases comes in the form of The Complete Sartana. This limited edition 5-disc set features all five original Sartana movies – If You Meet Sartana Pray for Your Death,

I Am Sartana Your Angel of Death, I Am Sartana Trade Your Guns for a Coffin, Have a Good Funeral My Friend…Sartana Will Pay and Light the Fuse…Sartana is Coming. Aside from having some of the greatest film titles in the history of cinema, the creation of the Sartana character is a landmark moment within the Spaghetti Western subgenre because rather than just be a cheap imitation of

The Man With No Name it created something new and interesting and borrowed from not only Westerns but from the likes of James Bond as well. This must-own set features all five films in brand-new restorations and a stable’s worth of special features.

The Last House On The Left [Limited Edition] (7/3)

The next gem from Arrow this month is the directorial debut of Wes Craven, The Last House on the Left. The film justly retains its reputation as one of the most harrowing cinematic experiences of all time, nearly half a century on from its original release making. This is the definitive edition of one of the true watershed moments in horror history.

The Cat O’ Nine Tails [Blu-ray] (7/3)

Dario Argento further cements his reputation as the master of the giallo thriller in the classic The Cat O’ Nine Tails. Co-starring Catherine Spaak (Il Sorpasso) and Rada Rassimov (Baron Blood), and featuring another nerve-jangling score by the great Ennio Morricone (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly), this remains one of Argento’s most suspenseful and underrated films.

Detective Bureau 2-3: Go To Hell Bastards! (7/10)

Fans of Seijun Suzuki’s yakuza films should be on the watch for Detective Bureau 2-3 Go to Hell Bastards!, which arrives on Blu-ray early in the month. Starring original Diamond Guy, Jo Shishido, this hard-hitting, rapid-fire yakuza film redefined the Japanese crime drama.

Doom Asylum (7/17)

Horror fans are well catered for too, as 1980s splatter slasher Doom Asylum arrives on Blu-ray. Starring Kristen Davis of Sex and the City fame, it sees a group of randy teenagers go up against a hideously deformed maniac armed with a wide selection of surgical tools. Funny and gory in equal measure, it’s one of the best slashers of the 80s.

The Case Of The Scorpion’s Tail (7/17)

And if your horror bent turns to giallo, Arrow Video have that covered as well, with a 2K restoration of Sergio Martino’s The Case of the Scorpion’s Tale. Combining intricate plotting, shocking violence and beautiful views of the Greek coast, this is a classic gialli that overflow with European talent.

Woman Is The Future Of Man / Tale Of Cinema:

Two Films By Hong Sangsoo (7/17)

Arrow Academy releases a collection including the fifth and sixth films by the masterful South Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo (Women is the Future of Man and Tale of Cinema). Sangsoo has been favorably compared to the great French observer of human foibles, Eric Rohmer.

The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey (7/24)

Arrow Video finishes the month by returning to genre-bending sci-fi with The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey. This New Zealand cult classic from Vincent Ward seamlessly blends time travel, sci-fi, and medieval fantasy to create a story unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Review: Arrow Video’s “Killer Klowns From Outer Space” Showcases Epic Never Before Seen Interviews and Features

As we head into the official 30th anniversary of the Chiodo Bros.’ cult-clown-classic, the prestigious restoration of retro beloved titles Arrow Video has released a beautifully restored version of the film that made us question that cotton candy you acquired at the county circus and fair. Chock full of all-new special features including a never-before-seen 24-minute interview with all three Chiodo brothers that offers a glimpse into the filmmaker’s wild-imaginary world and the origin of their passions leading up to Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

With a brand new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative opening with the Trans World Entertainment logo (BONUS), the differences in color and quality here are top-notch when compared to previous releases of the film. Perhaps the most predominant aspect of this brand-new visual look of the movie is the magnificent detail of the clown faces and suits you get to see now. So if you ever need a photo-still for those DIY Killer Klown Halloween costumes, this is the version you want as every last indent of each clown’s mug is seen as clear as Gordon Ramsay’s polished silverware.

Among the retrospective interview with the creators of killer popcorn kernels, the special features included with the 30th-anniversary disc are worth every damn penny you spend on this ultimate release of the cult-horror. A never-before-seen look at the auditioning process of the “klowns” is included with instructing the candidates in full-costume how to walk and move like a creepy as hell, vengeful alien clown, as seen below in a screen-shot I took from the excerpt.

I literally can’t believe I just wrote that last sentence. Jesus and JoJos, I love my job.

The circus of special features is only beginning as we move unto a new 11-minute interview with the original members of The Dickies, a tour of the Chiodos studios, and all-new interviews with stars Grant Cramer and Suzanne Snyder along with important members of the production cast. In Behind the Screams, we get a retro VHS style look at the behind the scenes action of the movie and we also, of course, have the beloved deleted scenes and a decent amount of bloopers from the movie. Because with a movie as silly and fun as Killer Klowns, you have to know there’s some gems from that cutting-room floor.

Even if you have one, two, or 6 copies of this movie already, THIS is the one you’ll definitely need in your collection.
