Here’s What You Can Expect From The “Rocky IV” Director’s Cut- And It’s Not Sico the Robot

Over the Summer, we got the fantastic and unexpected news that Sylvester Stallone was working on a massive edit for a long-awaited director’s cut for Rocky IV. Now thanks to Sly being the master of self-promotion that he is and his official Instagram account, we now have a clear(ish) picture of what to expect in this highly anticipated fresh version of the fan favorite of the franchise.

And quite honestly some of you might get a little pissed about this.

One of the biggest bombs dropped about what to expect from this, was the elimination of Paulie’s wacky birthday gift, the robot SICO in this cut. No “Happy Birthday Paulie“. No Rocky Jr. making himself dizzy on the thing while telling his dad his head looks like a “punching mitt”.

Nope. None of that at all. While Sly hasn’t offered an explanation, the creator of the Sico Robot,  Robert Doornick, shared his own recent theory with “Empire” about why Stallone has decided to cut the fan-favorite from the new edition:

“I was in my office when I found out. I was deluged with messages: ‘How can Stallone do that?’ But I know why he’s doing it, because I know he loves the robot. By causing turmoil among the fans of Sico, it generates more publicity. And by removing the robot from the movie, it saves money in royalty fees, because he is a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Sico receives cheques all the time – and of course he sends them over to me.”

Welp. I’m just a peon and no have authority to challenge the Italian Stallion on his own films. So, let’s see how this plays out. I would also assume it was also done to make room for additional footage; such as MORE DRAGO DIAOLGUE.

Oh, yeah. He’s actually going to have more than two sentences this time around. It also looks like via the IG video below that the Apollo/Drago fight might be edited as well. Whether it’s before, after, during, or hell all of the above, remains to be known.

In addition via a fan Q &A on the post, two new songs that were unused for the original film will be added to the feature; and to be perfectly honest, one can’t have too many montages in one of the greatest montage films in cinema history. So you’ll hear no complaints from me.

One final note, while this is speculation at this point and there is no confirmation, the director’s cut MAY actually get a theatrical limited release perhaps before the master cut is available to buy/stream. This is all according to Sly himself answering fan questions and quoted as saying, “I believe it’s going to be released as a feature film first.”

So hey, I guess will find out more soon!

I love re- editing this film. I have found such fantastic moments that I overlooked many years ago. This is a blessing to go back and get another chance to make it even better! @mgm_studios @dolphlundgren #Rocky4 Directors cut.

Sylvester Stallone Confirms A Director’s Cut Of Rocky IV In The Works

SYLVESTER STALLONE CONFIRMS A DIRECTOR'S CUT OF ROCKY IV IN THE WORKS

News so exciting it makes me wanna eat snails! Fan-favorite sequel, and personally speaking mine as well, ROCKY IV has been long overdue for a knockout Director’s Cut. Now, we have confirmation from the Italian Stallion himself that it is indeed coming.

While promoting an exciting extended cut version of RAMBO: LAST BLOOD being released on Apple TV over on the Stallion’s official Instagram, an enthusiastic fan posed the question of a possible Director’s Cut of Rocky Balboa being released in the future. Stallone answered shutting down any plans of any new cuts of the 2006 comeback classic. However, he had THIS to say instead:

SYLVESTER STALLONE CONFIRMS A DIRECTOR'S CUT OF ROCKY IV IN THE WORKS

I think amazing might be the understatement of the century.

In addition to being a mighty fan-favorite of the franchise, ROCKY IV was also the most successful installment financially speaking; raking in over 300 million worldwide back in 1985 setting a record on the highest-grossing sports film of all time before 2009’s THE BLIND SIDE took the crown in that arena.

While no official date of release has been announced other than a confirmation of being in the works, I can only speculate that it will probably be ready in time for the film’s 35th anniversary this coming November. In the meantime, there’s a pretty sweet deal over on Amazon for the entire Blu-Ray set which you can check it out here!

Also, if there’s an extended version of the most glorious montage in montage history, I’m going to lose my goddamn mind.

‘Rocky’ Documentary With Sylvester Stallone Premieres On-Demand Streaming In June

I truly can’t think of another way to start the Summer heat other than with a nice cold egg yolk smoothie and the long-awaited premiere of 40 Years of Rocky: The Birth of a Classic, narrated by Sly himself and streaming on-demand beginning June 9th, 2020.

Released by Virgil Films & Entertainment with writing and producing credits via Derek Wayne Johnson, the definitive ‘Roc Doc’ offers a heart-felt journey into the making of the original Rocky film as the Italian Stallion himself takes us back to the streets of Philly and the true underdog story of the century.

According to the official Facebook page, the doc was meant to be released back in 2016 in conjunction with the film’s actual 40th anniversary. However, due to unknown delays the project was shelved for a few years.

Official Release Per Social Media:

In 1976, a low budget movie written by an unknown actor was released, inspiring audiences around the world to go the distance. Rocky became the ultimate underdog film. Over forty years later, Sylvester Stallone recounts the making of the beloved classic through rare home movies provided by Director John G. Avildsen and Production Manager Lloyd Kaufman. Sylvester Stallone pitched the idea for “40 Years of Rocky: The Birth of a Classic” (2019) to director Derek Wayne Johnson and producer Chris May of AJ16 Entertainment after a private screening of their documentary John G. Avildsen: King of the Underdogs (2017), in which Stallone is also featured.

The film recounts the emotional depth and challenges of an, at the time, struggling actor with a golden script giving fans a real emotional grip on what this film means for not just Sly himself, but for the people that hold this movie close to their own hearts. I truly think now, more than ever, people need to hear these tales of rising from the ashes into something beautiful and positive that touches all our souls while conjuring up feel-goodness nostalgia. These films have been a part of my life as long as I can remember- growing up in an Italian-American family, it was almost like a right of passage. And now, we finally get the behind the scenes look we’ve been craving all these years.

Rocky and Drago Come Face To Face In Second Trailer For “Creed II”

33 years ago, Rocky Balboa single-handedly ended the Cold War with heart, a hell of a left hook, and a heartfelt speech about change that made Russia’s Prime Minister stand up and applaud.

Rocky and Drago Come Face To Face In Second Trailer For "Creed II"

Ok, maybe not a total truth but let me have my fantasy here.

Anyway, Rocky IV remains one of the most beloved sequels of the franchise with unarguably, some of the greatest montages that came straight out of the ’80s. So with Creed 2 coming full circle with the film that both broke the hearts of Apollo Creed fans everywhere and drove the fuzzy feelers of the Rocky franchise even further into our souls, it’s quite a gift for fans and something truly special not to go uncelebrated. Plus, I really want to see Rocky get one good punch in on that guy one more time. And with today’s trailer drop from MGM and Warner Bros that finally gives us a look at the pair giving each other eye daggers from hell along with an anticipated sneak peek at Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) and Ivan’s son, Viktor Drago (Florian “The Big Nasty” Munteanu) in what looks like could be, the entire franchise’s greatest moment yet!

SYNOPSIS:

Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.

“Death From Above”, and this time double the trouble, hits theaters Wednesday, November 21st, 2018 in the Rocky tradition of the week of Thanksgiving.

First Official Images From “Creed II” Are Here!

Hot off the press from MGM Pictures and Warner Bros. Studios, the first official images of Creed II have arrived and Junior looks like he means business as he prepares for the fight of his life against Viktor Drago. You know, the son of that scary as hell Russian that killed his father back in 1985.

Vengence at its finest my friends.

Directed by Stephen Caple Jr., the immortal Rocky saga continues with Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) stepping into the focal role with, of course, the legendary Italian Stallion, Rocky Balboa at his side to guide him through the squared circle along with the brakes of life.

The Offical Trailer For “Creed II” Is Here!

It’s time to break out the Vince Di Cola soundtrack because the highly anticipated sequel to Ryan Coogler’s phenom Creed 2, finally has a trailer for us drool over. And furthermore, the long-awaited return for the Rocky franchise’s most despicable (and memorable) villain, Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren)!

Trailer Via MGM

Due to a certain Marvel blockbuster set in Wakanda, Coogler only oversees as executive producer this turnaround and we have Steven Caple Jr. (The Land) helming the film that seeks vengeance for the death of Sir Apollo Creed once, and for all. Sylvester Stallone is back of course, reprising his role as Rocky and has written the screenplay for the upcoming film due to release this Thanksgiving. In the tradition of Rocky films, I not only expected that but demand a November release date for my nostalgic fuzzies. A Summer release would just be all kinds of wrong.

No word on if there will be any epic bearded musical montages set in Mother Russia. But, hey, let’s just pretend that might be a thing. Also, I’d like to note that instead of using resumes to apply for jobs, I just submit this YouTube video instead. Get’s a call back everytime. Seriously, try it. You’re welcome.

Stallone Reveals Epic “Creed 2” Poster With Ivan Drago and Son!

If you weren’t excited about Creed 2 yet (and who wouldn’t be?!), get ready to be more pumped than Rocky training like a beast in the Russian wilderness.

Busy as ever Sir Sylvester of Stallone has been working away on two sequels to a pair of the largest franchise films of his career- Expendables 4 and of course, Creed 2. Case in point, Stallone has been mighty generous keeping fans updated with the progress of both films using the wonderful world of social media. Via Sly’s official Instagram, the first (non-theatrical) poster for Creed II has been revealed and it is the most glorious thing you’ll see all day.

Co-writer and co-star in the sequel from Ryan Coogler’s 2015 massive hit that follows the son of Apollo Creed (Michael B. Jordan) and his journey into the boxing world, Stallone has recruited long-time friend and one-time Rocky opponent Dolph Lundgren to return as the “Siberian Bull”, Ivan Drago. In the sequel, Adonis (Jordan) is looking to settle an old score with the man who killed his father in the ring. And it looks like that revenge might be taken out on Drago’s son, played by real-life Romanian boxer Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu. Of course, Sly has hinted that Rocky himself, may get to lay a punch on good ole’ “Death From Above” as well.

I’m ok with every bit of this.
