Child’s Play Series | Nightmare Nostalgia

Sorry Jack, Chucky’s back… Again! Coming to TV for his own show on Syfy – but he’s not the only Child’s Play movie character returning.

The series ready to go on USA & SYFY October 12th, 2021 has not some, but ALL the franchises’ key players involved in what is set to be, Chucky’s finest hour and a full-circle karmic event that was set in motion over 30 years ago. Brad Dourif, the obvious here, is of course back voicing the killer doll along with his ex-sweetheart Tiffany, Jennifer Tilly coming back to the scene to rage hell once more. Fiona Dourif who plays Nica, Alex Vincent as Andy, and Kimberly Elise as Kyle all have a hand in Chucky’s new role in a small town in suburbia with newcomer Zackary Arthur as the new doll-bearer. Kind of like Frodo and the ring- you know such a heavy deadly burden and all.

In the new television series, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos after a vintage ‘Good Guy’ doll turns up at a suburban yard sale. Soon, everyone must grapple with a series of horrifying murders that begin to expose the town’s deep hypocrisies and hidden secrets. Meanwhile, friends and foes from Chucky’s past creep back into his world and threaten to expose the truth behind his mysterious origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

CHUCKY is produced by UCP and executive produced by creator Don Mancini, David Kirschner, Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund. Harley Peyton will also serve as executive producer. Mancini, who penned the film franchise, wrote the television adaptation, will direct the first episode and serves as showrunner.

And here I thought it was just going to be another boring Friday afternoon. Amazing, breaking news coming in from Bloody Disgusting today as a legit Child’s Play television series is coming our way!

On the heels of the beloved franchise turning the dirty 30 this year, original screenplay writer Don Mancini, who also directed the last three Chucky installments- Seed, Curse, and Cult, is bringing the Chuck to primetime alongside Child’s Play producer David Kirschner!

According to an interview with BD, the end result of Cult of Chucky is a direct set-up for an eight-part hour-long series to begin, and that the aim is to be darker than the films before:

“We plan to use Child’s Play in the title,” Mancini explained. “We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.”

Also, in case you’re asking yourself, the answer is YES: BRAD DOURIF WILL RETURN TO VOICE CHUCKY! In which case, thank you Play Pal Gods because we wouldn’t have it any other way! In regards to the series picking up after Cult, I have to wonder if that means we will see more of Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly?! Details are being kept under wraps for now so only time will tell.

In the meantime, let’s just celebrate the fact we’re getting more of our little friend to the end.
