Pre-Order Your Blu-Ray/DVD Copy For “My Friend Dahmer”

Give the gift of roadkill in acidic mason jars this Easter with a copy of My Friend Dahmer!

For the past 20+ years, we’ve encountered several films based on the nefarious lover of refrigerated human heads, Jeffrey Dahmer. While a personal favorite of mine, The Secret Life, stands as one of my favorite flicks based on the lunatic who murdered 17 (that we know of) men and boys between 1978- 1991 before his capture, My Friend Dahmer focuses on the psychopath’s teenage years.

And it’s fantastically brilliant with just the right amount of unsettling disturbance that serves as a precursor to the lunatic’s active years of murderous insanity.

Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Derf Backderf, its screenplay landed a spot on the coveted ‘Black List’, ranking it as one of the best-unproduced screenplays (at the time) before becoming a hit movie. With a theatrical release in 2017, My Friend Dahmer grossed over $1,300,000 in select theaters. It played extensively on the festival circuit, premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival and going on to play at LA Film Festival, Deauville Film Festival, American Film Festival. The film features an all-star cast that includes Emmy Nominee Anne Heche (Donnie Brasco), SAG Award winner Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), Former Disney star Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally), Alex Wolff (Patriot’s Day) and Dallas Roberts (3:10 To Yuma).

SYNOPSIS per the Press Release:
Jeff Dahmer (Lynch) is an awkward teenager struggling to make it through high school with a family life in ruins. He collects roadkill, fixates on a neighborhood jogger (Kartheiser), and copes with his unstable mother (Heche) and well-intentioned father (Roberts). He begins to act out at school, and his goofball antics win over a group of band-nerds who form The Dahmer Fan Club, headed by Derf Backderf (Wolff). But this camaraderie can’t mask his growing depravity. Approaching graduation, Jeff spirals further out of control, inching ever closer to madness.

“Halloween 2018” Will Pay Homage to Every Other “Halloween” Movie

That means we’ll get a Silver Shamrock tribute, right?!

Here at Nightmare Nostalgia, we don’t really cover too many current events and films, with the exception of course to anything referencing throwbacks to classics. However, this is Halloween, and the return of the one and only Nick Castle as “The Shape”. So yeah, I don’t really think I need to give any further explanation.

Anyway as you may, or hey may not have heard, Halloween 2018 is set to be a straight sequel to the 1978 immortal classic with John Carpenter producing and overseeing the ominous score. And of course, one of the most beloved scream queens of our generation Jaimie Lee Curtis reprising her role as Laurie Strode. It doesn’t really get any better than that folks. That is until news coming exclusively from Flickering Myth this morning via an interview with co-writer Danny McBride who says the new film will hold references to the other Halloween films in the franchise.

“This picks up after the first one. The Halloween franchise has kind of become a little bit of like choose your own adventure, you know like there’s some many different versions, and the timeline is so mixed up, we just thought it would be easier to go back to the source and continue from there. It was nicer than knowing you’re working on Halloween 11, it just seemed cooler, ‘we’re making Halloween 2‘. We do [reference the other movies]. For fans, we pay homage and respect to every Halloween that has been out there.”

With no official title yet other than Halloween, the film is helmed by David Gordon Green with a script by Green and Danny McBride. Along with Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle returning, the film stars Judy Greer (War for the Planet of the Apes, Archer), Andi Matichak (Orange Is the New Black), Will Patton (Shots Fired), Virginia Gadner (Runaways), Miles Robbins (Mozart in the Jungle), Dylan Arnold (Mudbound) and Drew Scheid (Stranger Things).

Hell unleashes on Haddonfield on October 19, 2018. Are you ready?! Stay tuned for further updates!

Chest-Pounding Fury: “Fear” Remake Announced From Universal Pictures

Pound your chest in happiness or full-on rage. Either way, a Fear remake is in the works.

According to an announcement yesterday over at Deadline, Universal Pictures is taking the ever-so-awesome 90’s film starring a post “Good Vibrations” Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon, and bringing it into the 21st century with a “reimagining”.  Oscar-nominated Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton) is set to co-scribe the script.

Brian Grazer, who originally produced the 1996 thriller, is returning in one of the producer’s chairs for this modern take on vengeful chest-pounding and roller coaster shenanigans.

While most of the plot is being kept under wraps for now, the studios did say this time around that the story will be told from a “female perspective”. Although I’m pretty sure we already saw that in The Crush and Swimfan.

Personally, I’m more interested in the roller-coaster’s perspective, but what do I know…
